Ten reasons Flickr is great for teaching photography

I taught an online digital photography class this summer and decided to use Flickr for a common online space for students to share their class work.

Below are my 10 reasons why Flickr is a great platform to teach an online photography class.

  1. Free - up to 1,000 photos.

  2. Private group page for student Flickr accounts.

  3. Exif data imports with photo.

  4. Full size uploads/downloads.

  5. Lightroom plugin for easy import.

  6. Flickr Organizer.

  7. No ads.

  8. Can make photos private.

  9. PhotoStream and albums at a glance.

  10. Photos are easy to name and describe.

SquareSpace vs. Adobe Portfolio

My portfolio needed a make over so my first decision was what platform to use. I have used Wordpress and Koken in the past, but as good as Koken is for managing image based portfolios, it has not been upgraded in a year, and the “latest news” is two years old. As powerful as Wordpress is, the layers of complexity to create what I want is to do is daunting. Ironically what I want to do is pretty simple.
